Moment-resisting Connections
Members Inputs
All references to EN 1995-1-1:2004
unless otherwise stated.
This refers to a connection of two or three members on the same axis under a force and a moment, according to Section 8
.
Double shear
Select if the connection if the fasteners operate in single or double shear.
In single shear, the connection consists of the two members defined under Member 1 and Member 2 below.
In double shear, the connection consists of three members, two identical members defined under Member 1 below, and a member defined as Member 2 below in the middle.
Member 1
Data for the first member.
Material
The material of the first member.
Teretron supports both timber-to-timber and timber-to-steel connections. Steel-to-steel connections are not supported.
Timber Type
The timber type of the cross-section. See the timber database section for the types supported by Teretron.
Characteristic density ρk,1
The characteristic density of the timber of the first member ρk, in kg/m3.
It is required in certain types of plywood where the relevant standards do not provide a value.
Depth h1
The depth of the cross-section of the first member in a single shear connection, or the first and third members in a double shear connection, in mm.
Width b1
The width of the cross-section of the first member in a single shear connection, or the first and third members in a double shear connection, in mm.
Angle φ1
The angle φ1 of the x-x axis of the first member with the plane, in degrees.
End
Defines if the connection is near the ends of the member.
The user can select from the following:
- ○ Continuous for a connection that is not near the end of the member.
- ○ Both sides for a connection that is near both ends of the member, at an equal distance from them.
- ○ Left for a connection that is near the left hand-side end of the member.
- ○ Right for a connection that is near the right hand-side end of the member.
End distance l1
The distance between the centre of gravity of the connection and the end of the member, in mm.
Member 2
Data for the second member.
Material
The material of the second member.
Teretron supports both timber-to-timber and timber-to-steel connections. Steel-to-steel connections are not supported.
Timber Type
The timber type of the cross-section. See the timber database section for the types supported by Teretron.
Characteristic density ρk,2
The characteristic density of the timber of the second member ρk, in kg/m3.
It is required in certain types of plywood where the relevant standards do not provide a value.
Depth h2
The depth of the cross-section of the second member, in mm.
Width b2
The width of the cross-section of the second member, in mm.
Angle φ2
The angle φ2 of the x-x axis of the second member with the plane, in degrees.
End distance l2
The distance between the centre of gravity of the connection and the end of the member, in mm.
