4. Moment-resisting steel flitch connection

In this tutorial, we design a bolted steel flitch connection for a glulam cantilever beam. The connection is under combined shear force and bending moment.

We check the lateral capacity of the bolts, their minimum allowed spacings and distances, the possibility of brittle failure in the glulam member, and the shear strength of the glulam member.

In this tutorial, we design the connection between a knee brace and a column. The connection is under wind loading, axial to the knee brace.

We design and check two connections: firstly the connection at the knee brace (under tension) and then the connection at the column (under combined tension and shear).
